Isotopes Park, home of the Albuquerque Isotopes

The Albuquerque Isotopes are a minor league baseball team based in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The team, which plays in the Pacific Coast League, is the Triple-A affiliate of the Los Angeles Dodgers. Albuquerque was previously represented in the PCL as a Dodgers’ affiliate by the Albuquerque Dukes, who won several PCL championships in the 1970s and 1980s before relocating to Portland, Oregon, as the Portland Beavers in 2001. The Isotopes began play in 2003 when the Calgary Cannons relocated to New Mexico.

Stadium Info: Isotopes Park is considered one of the finest facilities in baseball, incorporating state-of-the-art amenities with traditional charm and intimacy. In its six years of existence, Isotopes Park has become a popular destination for baseball fans throughout the southwest, attracting 3,473,913 people since opening its gates.

Isotopes Park stands in the exact same spot as where historic Albuquerque Sports Stadium stood from 1972 until it was almost completely razed in 2002. Some remnants from the old ballpark can still be found at The Lab, including the foundation of the main seating bowl, a pair of concrete retaining walls near each dugout, and of course, the trademark baseball that stands sentry on the corner of the University and Avenida Cesar Chavez.

Team Mascot - Orbit

Albuquerque Isotopes mascot, Orbit.

Orbit is a large goofy alien that arrived at Isotopes Park for the team’s inaugural season. This bright orange, yellow, and red guy landed late one night in centerfield. He has made Isotopes Park his home ever since.

Standing at about 6’5” (give or take four inches for his antennae) and weighing 300 lbs, this jolly giant is hard not to notice. His floppy ears, friendly eyes, and long snout gives him the appearance of a dog while his large belly makes him look like a stuffed bear. Fans are always confusing him with one or the other. We are currently working to get to the bottom of this identity problem. Soon we will have a definite answer.

Although he is large, Orbit loves to play games. Some of his favorite games to play include tag, hide-and-go-seek, checkers, football, and wrestling. He loves to climb on jungle gyms and slide down slides. Running is one of his very favorite things to do although it makes him very tired after he’s done.
