Chemical Identification

Press releases were issued by the US Army and the University of Montana regarding a new chemical identification process and VDV-1.  See the press release here http://www.matr.net/article-30443.html and here http://www.ecbc.army.mil/about/features_archive.htm. The next phase of funding was provided by the Almond Board.  The researcher plans to write at least one paper for publication.

Emergency Funding for Colony Collapse Disorder: Wax Residue Analysis

Funding from several of the 2007 Emergency CCD projects, as well as funding from the National Institutes of Health, the USDA_ARS Beltsville bee lab, the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture and the Florida Department of Agriculture led to the following publication: “A metagenomic survey of microbes in honey bee colony collapse disorder,” Science, 2008 Feb 8;319(5864):724-5. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/17823314

Several other publications are in the final stages of preparation and/or in review.  Results have been shared with both national bee organizations at the January 2009 meetings.
