Honey: Associate Referee Jonathan W. White reports that no new studies have been initiated during this period. The AOAC internal standard procedure for corn/cane sugars in honey has been well-received overseas. However, the British Honey Importers and Packers Association did not initially accept the difference limit (between the value for honey and that of its protein) of 10/00, as specified in the method, but rather a value of 20/00. However, after considerable correspondence and statistical examination on their part, Dr. White was advised on December 12, 1994, that they now will require the 10/‘0 difference limit. Dr. White indicates that there is a continuing need for a relatively facile procedure for demonstrating the presence of beet sugar in honey; the only procedure available has recently been somewhat compromised.
