In general, our invention comprises fermentation of the leaves by organisms which digest the celI walls, mild mechanical action to detach the rubber-containing protoplasts from the plant debris, separation of the protoplasts from the debris by screening. digestion of the protoplasts with alkali to release the rubber globules, and separation and recovery of the rubber as a latex.
