It has only recently been recognized that the following carotenoids, other than “carotene” and “xanthophyll,” often occur in the grain of yellow corn (Zea mays L.): zeaxanthol, cryptoxanthol beta-carotene, alpha-carotene, K carotene and neocryptoxanthol.  It has been shown that the isomerization products neo-beta-carotene, neocryptoxanthol, and neozeaxanthols A,B and C are present under ordinary conditions in solutions containing beta-carotene, cryptoxanthol, and zeaxanthol, respectively.
