National Cherry Month is as Sweet as Can Bee

Posted by National Honey Board on February 22, 2017 - 9:31 PM

It’s National Cherry Month, and we think there are few partnerships sweeter than honey bees and cherries. Honey Bees Prepare for the Biggest Game of Their Season

We’re not sure about you, but if you ask us, this is a great week! This is the week between football’s biggest game of the season and love’s biggest day of the year (aka Valentine’s Day). What you may not realize is that right now, honey bees are in California gearing up for the biggest game of their season – the pollination of almonds.

Did you know that California produces 80% of the world’s almonds1? And did you also know that almonds are 100% dependent on honey bee pollination? This means that more than 80 billion honey bees are currently buzzing in California getting ready to pollinate the more than 800,000 acres of almond crops, owned by 6,800+ farmers2. Pollinating almonds requires about two honey bee hives per acre, meaning there are upwards of 1.7 million hives – that’s ...

Honey Brings It Home on Game Day!

This Sunday is football's biggest game and a local radio station has coined it as “the biggest Sunday of the year.” While we believe that this is up for debate (hello Easter and the occasional Sunday Christmas), it definitely is a big day for sports fans and food lovers alike. Whether you lean towards chicken wings, pulled pork or simply chips and dip, honey is the one ingredient that takes your game day to the next level!

Honey is an all-natural sweetener, we all know that, but did you know that honey also serves as an emulsifier in marinades, sauces and dips, and a humectant, helping you lock in all the delicious natural juices ensuring moist, tender meat? That’s right; honey is the single ingredient that spans your entire menu, ensuring that your game day party will win in the good eats department.

Breakfast Has Never Been Sweeter

The National Honey Board (NHB) is so excited to launch the new year with its first retail promotion of 2017!

Picture this: It’s a chilly winter morning, there may even be some snow on the ground, but it’s still a beautiful sunrise. The house is quiet except for the coffee that’s brewing in the corner, leaving the house smelling immaculate. You ask yourself, “What could possibly make this morning any better?” And then you respond with “A toasty English Muffin!” You reach for your pack of Thomas’ English muffins, take one out, slice it and put it in the toaster. Next you turn to the pantry to pick out your topping. Will it be jam? Butter? Peanut butter? But then you realize that there is only one condiment that can truly shine with your warm muffin – honey! As you pour your ...

Oh, What a New Year, Honey!

The new year is officially here and we can’t help but be excited.

Last year brought many new and exciting experiences for the National Honey Board (NHB) – soaking up the sun at South Beach Food and Wine, partnering with Disney on the epic retelling of The Jungle Book, launching our first retail program with our Honey Up Your Summer promotion, and connecting with foodies at the Feast of Portland. Along with making new friends, we also got to spend the year with some of our long-time friends like Chef David Guas and photographer Mark Boughton.
