It’s a new year and following the festivities of the holiday season, the popular topic dominating this month is Dry January.

A popular movement in the UK, many in the U.S. are jumping on the Dry January trend of abstaining from alcohol in the first month of the year. With the program gaining momentum with the start of each new year, we wanted to learn more about the popular craze.

The first official Dry January campaign was launched in 2013 by Alcohol Change UK, but the heart of the movement is said to be Emily Robinson. Robinson signed up for a half marathon to take place in February 2011 and decided to take a break from alcohol in the month leading up to the big race. Seeing multiple benefits from the break (better sleep, more energy, and even weight loss), Robinson shares her experience with those curious about her change. Upon joining Alcohol Change UK, this small idea has blossomed into a worldwide movement with millions of participants each year (you can learn more about Alcohol Change UK’s story here).

Now we’re not sure about you, but our newsfeeds are being flooded with #DryJanuary posts and we’ve even seen experts talking about the trend and its benefits (including weight loss, fresher/younger-looking skin, more energy, and saving money) on national television, and it inspired us to look through our recipe database to find our favorite spirit-free beverages.

Just as in cocktails, honey adds more than just sweetness to your favorite non-alcoholic beverages, it also brings balance by enhancing other ingredients in a recipe and creates a unique and favorable mouthfeel. With that in mind, today we’re sharing six flavorful “mocktails” that are sure to make your Dry January refreshing and delicious!
